Who's planning on being out to the Seattle area next July for GeoWoodstock VIII?

I plan to make to make a foray into Canada (Vancouver) while out there, as well.

Might be able to get there, it's driving distance from Calgary so there may be a convoy from Calgary.

Original stash, Project A.P.E., lilypad and a mega event? Almost too good to pass up.

I was just in Vancouver this summer so I won't go back there again for a while, way too busy for me! But worth the visit to get another province.

BC's oldest cache is on UBC (University of British Columbia) land. Stanley Park is a beautiful location with an EC and a virtual with many options for logging and several traditionals as well. It's best to get around that park by bicycle. On the way to Vancouver from Seattle are several EC options in both WA and BC. Then there's the great virtual "Peace Arch" at the border plus countless benchmarks if you're into that.

sigh, makes me wish I was still on vacation.

Is anyone really considering going to Seattle this summer? I haven't committed yet but I think I would like to go. It would be nice to meet up with anyone from here.

The 15 hour drive with a tent trailer is making me hesitate but an opportunity for fellowship would make it worth it.

My summer vacation is taking shape. I'll leave home on Canada Day (July 1 - first time out of Canada on its birthday) and stay over in Coeur d'Alene the first night. Then on to Carnation for July 2. The 3rd is GW VIII then on the 4th, 5th and 6th will be day trips for various caches. Also, me and the girls want to take in an American fireworks show for Independence Day.

Dave, what does your itinerary look like? How many will be in your party? I thought maybe we could car pool (I could drive if you're not renting a car) to do the original stash. It's about a 4 hour drive one way from Carnation to the original stash. Then on another day, my 12 year old wants to go to Forks, WA (4.5 hours west) to do a 'Twilight' multi - please don't judge me :?

Of course I want to do the Project A.P.E and the lily pad as well. That's a full itinerary over those few days.

Back to the original stash, what would anyone think of hiring a bus and charging others to all travel together? Talk about a group cache run! I thought about making it an express run, doing an EC in Oregon, the original and another one that is very close by too. Not sure about the cost but I figure if we got 50 people at $25 a head, that should cover the cost of a coach bus. Then we could sleep on the way there if we want (or we could even turn it into an event!) and be relaxed rather than having to drive on unfamiliar roads. And won't we be doing enough driving already that week?

Mine really aren't taking much shape, yet, but I expect to have my son along for caching. As far as family, I will have my son, for sure. I expect to have my mom, my aunt, and my uncle (a cacher). I also believe Stacy / CodyHollowFarm will be coming out (with husband and 2 kids?) and, hopefully, Beau and Jo / coupleocachers will be coming out.

We've got some crazy organized cachers in town. Here's what they've put together for the trip to GW VIII.

Departure event in Calgary, June 30
evening stop over event in Spokane June 30

return stop over in Kamloops, BC

plus a bunch of other fun stuff

Calgary Convoy to GW VIII

Hi All, I've updated my post above with more links.

eight weeks from now, it will all be over... Scary thought, I still have so much to do for planning.

Does anyone have their schedule tightened up? I may be doing the A.P.E. cache on Thursday with the convoy or on Friday as part of the organized group. I want to do original stash and the lilypad. Anyone want to join me for that? There's an event on 4th of July in Seattle. Don't know where to draw the line, so much to do, so little time.

Wow, I haven't booked any accommodations yet. I plan on going a budget route (tenting most likely). There is a campground that offers yurts at $50 a night and sleeps up to 7. I've got 3 in my party (me and two daughters). Would anyone be interested in splitting the cost on that? I'm not sure how private they are but it may be an option. I'm not even sure if they have any available. I'll check tomorrow.

The other campground I'm looking at it Snoqualmie. Again, don't know about availability but I'll check it out soon.

I should have guessed, the campground only 1.5 mile from GW VIII is fully booked (Tolt). I did manage to get a tent site at Snoqualmie though which is a 7 mile drive.
