This is the first time in a long time I feel the need for the latest technology.
http://gpscradle.dualav.com/index.html

It's a cradle for the Touch which turns it into a GPSr. Due out online in late February according to the site.

Well, they missed their target date and have been taking some heat on their blog.

I'm still interested though because of the navigation options for apps from iTunes.

Do you know what the cradle is supposed to run?

Sorry, forgot that one little detail. The blog or site says $199.

Just got an email a few hours ago. It is now available for $199.95, only on Apple Online Store though, was not expecting that one!

So far though, not available through Apple Store Canada.

They seem to have really bungled the release of it (five missed dates) and they took more heat for it here.

I will have to wait a bit before it's available in Canada. That will give me time to see what the reviews are like.

Hello to all:

Yup, I am new to this site, but the name and I have been around the block on GC and TC for some time now.

The Dual Electronics guys were nice enough to allow my wife and I to prototype the Cradle for the I-Pod Touch.

The product may be a bit steep in price for someone that is just interested in the geocaching realm, but I use my I-Pod on a daily basis at work for such things as network / software logs / email etc.... general business stuff....so the $199 was a very attractive add-on to an already functional tool.

I am involved in the Search and Rescue Scene, as well as Ham Radio (SATERN) and the device of choice, (5+ years ago) was the Garmin I-Que 3600... it was small, functional and very accurate. Today however, I can honestly say that I have parked my i-que and the Ipod and the XGPS are strapped to my belt.

The accuracy of the unit is amazing! Although periodically it needs to give its head a shake to get going....( most markedly after an extended off time frame). With Cathy and I coming from most caches at 9o degrees.... when the i-pods touch, we are at the cache. Not too many times do we get "skunked" when we trust the equipment....

I love the cradle..... BUT with the most recent upgrade to the iOS4, the turn by turn mapping (NavAtlas) that came with the package is not functional. The NavAtlas package was one of the best that I have seen, and I have been assured that there will be an upgrade "soon".... but for now "TopoMaps" and a myriad of other packages all work with the iOS4 and the Cradle... so I am still a happy camper.

Welcome Fred! I don't know if you remember but I had sent you a note through GC a while back asking about this. I haven't picked one up yet because it hasn't been a priority.

Welcome, it's great to have another Albertan on the site. For those that don't know, Medicine Hat and Calgary are only about three hours apart.

I wasn't able to make it to the brass cap convention (in Medicine Hat) this weekend because I was hanging out with Franklin Graham :D at Rock The River in Calgary. That'll be the topic of another conversation though.
